After a few failed attempts, we have located The Fabrication Shop. For those of you who don't know, it's the wheel modification thread I created at the old PSN forum. It went MIA when the Death Star blew up. They had it frozen in carbonite or something.
Got it moved over here finally. :sBo_crazyjump: Big thanks to RackAttack, Jimmy, Gar, and Swerv!

The Shop's thread is closed to keep it all tidy and condensed. But feel free to discuss anything about wheel/pedals/shifter modifications here. I may add some commercially available items as well as mods from our members. I can't be the only one here who has modded something. So, please post your mods/comments/questions if you are so inclined.

Sorry for being off-topic but, I love your avatar. What's that thing got, 1/2HP? LOL!! :sHa_hehe:

Haven't had it on the dyno. I may have taken the weight reduction a bit far, though.

My bad. I now remember seeing that a while back. :p Just couldn't figure out how to move everything over here without gobs of work.

    This.

I was gonna write the code myself but I would have had to go sharpen my chisel and that's kind of a pain...

Alright wheel master, I'm pretty sure this isn't going to be something that I can fix, but I just wanted to get your opinion. I've had my G25 for about 2 years, and it was used when I got it, so it's about around for awhile. Obviously, it has seen very heavy use for the last 5-6 months, almost always with force feedback set to 10. I've recently noticed that it seems to be losing its force. I can barely tell a difference between low and high force feedback settings, and there is a very large dead zone in the middle where it takes almost no effort to turn (about 1.5 inches of rotation either way).

I'm assuming this is just the force feedback motors getting older and tired, but is there perhaps something else that could be causing this?

It still centers itself properly and doesn't lose center while in use?

    Yes, it still centers itself.
No, it does not lose center while in use.

Ok. Power supply still plugged in tight and doesn't get overly warm?

It's definitely still plugged in, same place it's always been plugged in. The plug is fairly far away so the cord runs across the ground, shouldn't be overheating.

It still provides good strong feedback when you turn it further than an inch or so.

How warm does that box (the inverter) halfway up the cord get with use?
Also how warm does the wheel case get? The top of mine gets a bit more than warm to the touch after a typical online race, but not painfully hot.
Another remaining potential problem source is dust/hair, basically blow into the front vent and see what happens.

If your weak feedback is all the time and not after some minutes of use, that suggests it's not an overheating issue. But, it doesn't directly suggest plain old motors either as the gear ratio between the feedback motors and the center gear is such that there shouldn't be a small zone of weak feedback with normal elsewhere (see here, 10-11-12 down).

Haven't felt the warmth of the inverter. The top of the wheel definitely gets warm after some extended use, but I'm pretty sure this problem is happening even when it's cold.
I just took it apart (to remove the clamps) about a month ago, and I didn't notice any dust/hair in there. I guess it's definitely possible I screwed something up when I opened it, but I don't know what that would be. I didn't really mess with the motors at all.

Snagged a wire or connection. Is that case-opening project about when the weak zone started?

Certainly possible. I turned my FF down to do some rallying a few weeks ago, then finally remembered to turn it back up to 10 and that's when I noticed it. It's possible it was like that before, but I honestly can't remember.

I guess I'll open it up again tonight and take a look.

Dunno, Rack. Not a problem I'm familiar with. Doesn't really sound like it's a mechanical issue, more likely electronic/electrical.

Double check wheel set to Simulation, Power Assist Off, etc?

Some people complain of a "dead zone" with G series wheels in GT. The force feedback on mine has always seemed a bit light at or near center. Possibly yours is just a normal condition which was made more noticeable by the reduced force feedback?

Sorry, don't have any solid answers on this one.

I'm thinking it's this. Combined with me looking for an excuse to get a Thurstmaster

In that case, the G25 is broken. I recommend immediate wheel upgrade.

    And a glass of water.
