Outside of the conduct Rules/Regulations, what can you tell me about licensing? =P sorry, I couldn't resist. feel free to delete =D

    Re: Questions and Concerns

Does dirt racing have the same rules in terms of 're entering' then race after a spin out or crash? It seems that not up to 4 racers can be on the same dirt track.

things like under steering into a wall and immediately speeding back because technically you haven't left the track and perhaps not slowed down too much. yet another car comes speeding in, i suppose you'd just need to avoid contact for both drivers?

toscana does have an outside the track area but there are few spots where more than 2 wheels are off the track and they aren't really obvious.
    ------------------------
also what are limits on driving aids? For us with controller users the assists keep us on par with steering wheel users.

i personally use atb at medium, and might use mild active steering to avoid the grave error of counter steering too hard with the thumb stick :/

    Re: Questions and Concerns

The details of our licensing system are coming very soon, possibly even the next 'new' thing we do.
    Thanks for your patience.

Racing wheel-to-wheel on unpaved surfaces will be difficult in many ways.
Using the wall in your described manner is not allowed in our Prologue events, nor will it be allowed in our GT5 events. Damage will be on for all our sanctioned events in GT5, if the in-game damage turns out to not be a strong enough deterrent to stay off of the wall we will adjust the rules as needed and that included surface- or location-specific rules.
If you did not stay on course for any reason you are expected to yield while merging back onto the course.

Racing with the TPRA is designed to be a non-contact endeavour. If all participants endeavour to race without contact then any accidental and incidental contact should be minor and non-disruptive.

    lol edits

    What's ATB?

We'll be using the most realistic physics settings for racing. On-car electronics such as ABS, TCS and ASM are up to drivers. We encourage drivers to remove ASM, as it applies brakes without brake lights and if you're relying on it while racing you're not really in control of your car.

I raced fine in Prologue with a controller and just ABS for 'assists', other than the first day or two as it took me those first couple days to figure out lag.

As you can see, we're moving more and more of our regs out to the public forums. The latest being the Technical Regulations I've slaved over for the last few months. I hope that this list of categories and classes will serve us well in our league racing ventures. I hope I have covered the world of motorsports well and that I've created a place for almost any car to race. Any suggestions are welcome. Questions are expected.

    Re: Questions and Concerns

Oops, TCS is what i mean XD. i often tune this setting depending on the car, and how i want to drive it.

I've played the gt5 demo again, but this time turned active steering off, and i was flying all over the place :/. i don't know if this is fixed or not(given the recent changes confirmed), but it seems nudging the analog stick too much results in the game reading it as a full steering wheel turn :(. i don't have the problem with the setting on mild but off results in lots of swerving just trying to straighten the car out let alone drift in a turn. I didn't have as much of a problem on the road, but it was rather bad.

I didn't have this problem in GT5:p, i drove like any other gt before pretty much.

perhaps i'll wait til i get the game Wednesday, by then people can test out various play styles and figure out whats recommended.

    Re: Questions and Concerns

Yes the change in controller steering after 5P was first seen in the Time Trial Demo. I didn't have a wheel at the time and really enjoyed the increased sensitivity of the steering. It took a bit to get used to but made 5P feel really dull in comparison.

edit: TCS doesn't really work properly (realistically) in GT5P (and earlier GT games) as car speed is read on longitudinal axis speed and not wheel speed.

    Re: Questions and Concerns

yes but i could manage a good time in in the time trail demo. i don't remember my place tho :/, i didn't have much time to play but i think i was some where in the top 500 in total time...i closely watched some replays for pointers even though they were using a steering wheel and/or driving manual, that shot me way up XD.

Perhaps i simply haven't spent enough time in this demo yet :/. But i know dirt racing was impossible atleast.

    Re: Questions and Concerns

Have you started/outlined the document for the process of being a host for sanctioned TPRA events? Not knowing exactly what can be host controlled and how results etc will be presented to us probably leaves some major holes in that document. But I'd venture to guess that there's been thought put to it as far as being a ladder similar to the drivers' licensing...

    Re: Questions and Concerns

That's pretty much the case. We're going to learn how to do it properly, then write it down, then post it. A ladder or experience will probably look a lot like the REPS.

    Re: Questions and Concerns

    typo

While creating the car group separation, the four basic splits you see already in both those and the licensing system was the minimum we felt comfortable with providing reasonable performance jumps as people upgraded from one to the next via experience.

One step you don't see yet here in GT5 area is "Spot Races", for shorter-than-normal events with simple car groupings designed to be a bridge between casual (unscored) events and the majority of events we'll be doing while still accruing REPS for the drivers taking part. Beginning hosts (including us Prologue veterans) will be starting with those before moving on to more complicated or longer events.

Our target time for a regular scored event is one hour, including (if possible) qualifying. This will allow the maximum number of drivers to be able to fit a race inside their schedule on weeknights no matter which time zone they are located in. This minimum serious driving time (whatever it turns out to be) for an event will be standardized at awarding 2 REPS points for all participants. Longer events will award more points on a naturally-increasing scale, and the aforementioned shorter Spot Races will award just 1. A short field (under 8) will also reduce the awarded REPS.

I like that a lot; even I should be able to climb up the ranks. I can't wait for all that to start. :sHa_okay:

    Re: Questions and Concerns

As stated before, all you have to do is race and not get reported to "climb up the ranks".

Also I'd like to mention that we at the TPRA realize that drivers mostly just want to race, we'll be making that as simple as we can. If qualifying can be done at the track right before the race then our current Prologue qualifying system of form submittal may not be needed at all, we would just need you to post a few details (such as your PSN ID and car) in the event thread.

    :)

    Re: Questions and Concerns

Would it be possible to get some clarification on this section:
Drivers will make every reasonable attempt to maintain 2 wheels of the same side of the car on the acceptable racing surface, as defined by the painted lines that outline the pavement, as well as any connected curbing or rumble strips. Variances may be made by track and class. If a driver leaves the track, they may not maintains speed, advance position or gain advantage in any way, at peril of penalty. To rejoin the racing surface, a driver must yield to any and all cars still on the racing surface.

From my understanding, as I read it, that would mean that you could be in 3rd (just using hypothetical numbers here) and you would end up all the way in last place, as it is written.

I just think this needs to be a little clearer in it's intended meaning.

Thanks guys looks really good otherwise (so far)

You just need to find a suitable gap to reenter the course safely. We'll amend the wording.
