Crew Chief's Corner was started November 28th 2008. By this time, GT5P had been out for 4 months and I started to notice something. First that the tuning did a lot for the car and second that about 90% of the drivers had no clue on how to tune. By now I had switched from a controller to the DFGT and started to work on tunes for the cars in GT5P.
As I worked on the tunes, I gave them out to drivers so they could give me some feed back. As they reported in with thier suggestions, I was able to fine tune the tunes before making them public. Over this time I was able to find that not everything in the GT world worked as in the real world. Finding this out made it a lot easier to tune the cars. At this time, there was no CCC but I was willing to give out my tunes to anyone that needed them. As the weeks went by, someone started to call me "Crew Chief",( I think it was swerv.) And the name stuck. With all the requests for help, I started the thread at the PSU of Crew Chief's Corner. At first, some where upset with me as they felt that by posting my tunes, the bashers would have a way to keep up with the clean drivers and cause havok. But thier fears were soon put aside as it was shown that a good tune is only 1/2 the puzzle. If you were a bad driver, there was no way a tune was going to help.
So here we are today. With over 260 tunes. Including tunes from guest tuners, I feel that this is one of the biggest collections of tunes for GT5P. I have found some of the tunes posted at other forums. Now some say this is the biggest form of flatery. I do wish they asked me first if they could repost them on another forum. CCC has branched out with other help threads. Driving tips and a Tuning school. And once GT5 full comes out, watch for "Crew Chief's Driving School" Here I hope to help the new drivers make that next step on the ladder to the top tier. And with 900+ cars in GT5, I will have my work cut out for me as the requests for tunes will be great. So here's to the future and a big THANK YOU for the support in the past.
See you on the track and have fun.
    KART

That was then, this is now. With GT5 coming out, a new world of tuning is in the works. With karts to LMP1, there is a huge number of cars coming and I'll post my tunes as they are finished.Stay tuned.:welcome::welcomeCCC:

just realized that your blog entry also has a thread; so I paste and copy my blog comment in here as well:

Let me first thank you for Crew Chief's Corner, Kartracer. This is always the first place I go to when in need of a tune. Okay, sometimes I cry out first to clacksman for a tune.
Anyway, I'm wondering if any thoughts are put into the question on where to store all those tunes for GT5. CCC is a great place to go but not perfect for searching specific track - car - pp combinations. I know that some tunes are available at ConsoleRacer.com which has a very nice search feature.
It would be nice if the community could agree on one place for publicising tunes so that lazy people like me have an easier life.

We would like to have a tune database right here somehow. :)

That's the kind of answer I was hoping for. And as long it is searchable for car and track I'm happy.

We will be looking into it and I will try my best to make it as simple as can be.

KARTRACER, I have been playing with an excel spreadsheet, putting down some of your tuning since 2009. I would like to show it to you, but I don't know how to post an excel workbook on here.
I have around 50 cars right now. If you like I could continue to get the tunings since you began to post them.

Keep working on it. Once GT5 comes out, the tunes for GT5P will be almost useless. But a spread sheet for GT5 will come in handy. If you can, send a copy to Moose to see if it can be used here.

Once I start to tune in GT5, I will post them here but will have a tune directory set up with each track having it's own section, and all tunes for that track will have the tunes linked in it. The op of that thread will have a link to each track section. That thread will be locked, but if you have a tune you would like to post or a question, this will be the thread to do it in.:sHa_biggrin:

I wounder if a CCC smilie can be made.

Don't you want the tunes sorted by car? I can't say I've ever seen a tune database sorted by track first. Some setups are for general use, or more than one track, or no track in specific.

I don't want to sound academic but if the database is set up right you can sort the information in different ways even though only typed in once.
Sometimes you might want to display all tunes per track. E.g. a race is scheduled on a track with open car choice. Now you want to find all tunes for that track and maybe make your car choice based on the tunes you find.

Any way you sort it you are looking at 70K to 100K tunes in the database with just one tune per car per track, I think it would be easier to sort by track than by car to begin with, then go from there and see what works best.

If it's an actual database, then yes, it's just a matter of redefining the search parameters, but I'm not sure what he's planning on using for a medium.

    Looking forward to the database.
Some of us (Ok.. Me) have little to no experience on Oval track racing
So a database on tunes and settings would be a great help.

Re: Crew Chief's Corner for GT5

yeah, the number of track - car combinations will be overwhelming. And then imagine multiple tunes for the same combo from different tuners. For me it will come down to which tuner to trust. I already know a few I will trust

I'll keep an excel sheet with the tunes I used and that will also include the best lap time. The lap time will be my only rating method for tunes. Filter and sort features of excel (or openoffice for that matter) will be all I need to find tunes.

In my wildest GT5 phantasies I imagine folks like clacksman and Kart have also such an excel sheet and somehow I would have reading access to the file. :sFun_sleeping:

Or imagine TPRA would maintain such a sheet and provide reading access to it on their forum. :sHa_clap:

    I like GTVault. ;)

The other complication is how many cars are similar enough to share chassis setups effectively. Any of the R32 GT-Rs (for example) should work in a nearly identical manner, and we even got a hint of that in Prologue with the 135i and 1 Series Concept.

Not to mention there are some Car + Track combinations you just wouldn't need.
Who here would seriously race a Kart, or '57 Fiat 500 on Nordschleife Nürburgring? (interesting race.. my money would be on the kart)
With that in mind. If we look at what combinations would reasonably be used, and 'similar' Car models/Types we could effectively reduce the size of the DB to at least 1/2 if not smaller.

Have you been sneaking into the office?:sHa_hehe:

Karts will be run on any track that I can gear it for. As for the other car, well there are some nuts on the staff.

Re: Crew Chief's Corner for GT5

I assume the number of available tunes would only grow over time anyway with the more reasonable car - track combos being available earlier. We might never get all combos; but who knows if GT6 takes as long as GT5... :sBo_crazyjump:

All I know is that I will heavily depend on publicly available tunes
